First of all, we had to do the prayers in sacrament meeting today. As I am walking up to the pulpit, Avery starts screaming. Then she chases me down the isle on my way back. (mind you, it was the primary program today and we had to sit in the back on the folding chairs and wood floor. We normally try to get there early to get a bench, but today Avery didn't want her hair done, she didn't want to eat, she didn't want to get dressed! So, we sat in the back. AAHHHHH!)
Then, she obviously doesn't want to sit still. She wants to dance in the isle and tap her shoes on the floor. Well, that doesn't fly, so Jake starts getting mad at her. We get the quiet book out. That only lasts about 2 minutes and then she is in the isle again. She is ALL over the place. It was horrible. Then here and there Rylee would let out a squeal or two and I seriously thought I was going to lose it. Then Avery starts crying again because Jake has to go up and give the closing prayer and starts chasing him down the isle! She is such a mess! I AM such a mess!!! Avery was so naughty!!!!!! I read somewhere to help your children be more reverent is to lessen the amount of "things" from home, as well as treats. So, I tried that. ....I'm not convinced it works. I think I need to bring my bigger bag again. And I don't want her to think that by being naughty she will be taken out because that is exactly what she wants. I a 'parenting for dummies' book or something. I don't know how to control my child. I'm sure everyone around me was so glad to be at church too! Church is such a circus!

Don't we get a "get out of church" pass during these years??? I've never heard of leaving stuff at home to help kids be more reverent. We wouldn't survive if it weren't for our church bag. Our problem right now is that we are the ONLY ones in Sunday school and RS with a baby. Any sound she makes is disruptive, and we all know how quiet babies are. I go to church to walk the halls...we get credit for effort, right?!?!?!
Thing is, everyone has been there so it's probably bugging you more than others sitting by you. We had a family that had two boys start crying during the sacrament and I think they were trying to outcry the other. I heard people laughing it was so loud. She will eventually grow out of it! Plus she is so stinkin cute. I'm sorry it was so hard!
It IS so hard! My kids struggle too and sometimes it's the 7 and 8 year old! Hello! You'd think they would get it by now! When you find the trick let me know.:)
So this post cracked me up. I can just picture you & Jake freaking out. I have had some hard Sundays. Where I get home and wonder why I even left in the first place. I have started to make my kids wait for a snack or something to play with until after sacrament. If they aren't good during that time they don't get anything. Doesn't always work, but its worth a try. Good Luck!!!!
